Meaglow produces hollow cathode plasma source based on 2.75″ Conflat fittings

In the past when people have wanted one of our plasma sources that they could connect to a 2.75″ conflat fitting, what we’ve had to suggest is a UHV plasma source with a 3.375″ conflat nipple and a conical adapter to the 2.75″. The difficulty has been the 1.5″ tube associated with a 2.75″ conflat connection and getting the water cooling lines with connections into a hollow cathode for that narrow tube diameter.

We do make a smaller source, based on 1.33″ conflat fittings (the mini-UHV plasma source) however for that unit there is no water cooling and the power is limited to 80 watts for continuous operation. The 2.75″ version was requested by a group from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was made to operate at 300 watts of power so that water cooling was going to be necessary for some conditions. We were finally able to get a workable (and less expensive) design with these constraints, though the cathode had to be welded directly to its feedthroughs as there was no room for removable connections.

This is just one of the many customized solutions that Meaglow has provided through the years. We are situated in Canada in a city with a large machine shop capacity and we use that large capacity to produce rapid prototype designs, often within a month from purchase order to production.
