The hollow cathode mini-plasma sources, which Meaglow Ltd. originally developed for the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (check out page 8 of the winter issue of NASA’s Cutting Edge magazine), are now being made more widely available. These small 80 watt plasma sources are based on 1.33″ conflat and NW16 (KF16) fittings and are ideal for small research systems. They feature the all metal construction, which has been shown to reduce the oxygen contamination commonly associated with dielectric liners used for ICP and microwave sources. Meaglow Ltd is also offering some low power RF options with these systems, including a manual match.
